The 2020-2021 school year is full of uncertainty and mental and emotional stress for parents, teachers, caregivers, and students due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We navigate re-openings, hybrid class structures, virtual learning, outbreaks and re-closures, all events that can cause or deepen depression, anxiety and fear.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has produced a 2020 Back to School Toolkit. It helps students, parents, and school personnel navigate the uncharted territory of COVID-19.

Please note, they have also created Spanish-language fact sheets and a worksheet that can be downloaded here.

This year’s toolkit includes:

  • Fact sheets for parents/teachers;
  • Fact sheets for children/teens;
  • Key messages and statistics;
  • Sample drop-in article;
  • Sample social media post language and images; and
  • Spanish language fact sheets and a worksheet.
